Today I am excited to introduce Carlos Velasco with Local 1st. Carlos was born in Ecuador, came to the US when he was 13, and has been living in Arizona for the past 11 years.
His passion has always been working with entrepreneurs, and he does that as a board member of the nonprofit organization Local 1st, an organization focused on educating people about the impact of consumption on local businesses and how supporting them grows our local economy. Local 1st wants to create a healthy community and give people a sense of connection to their home. Creating a strong local economy is a key factor in having those results.

Local 1st was founded just 11 years ago, and today it has one of the largest coalitions of locally owned businesses across the US. There are other movements happening across the US, but they are the first organization to have a chapter seeking to bring their message to local Hispanic residents.
Coming soon from Local 1st: Springfest! This year's event will take place on March 28th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Plaza del Sol on the corner of 83rd Avenue. This is going to be a great, FREE event, that will resemble a traditional Hispanic marketplace. Many local businesses will be in attendance, serving food and showing off their great products. There will also be some live music and dancing, so come out and have a great time!
