Dawn and her husband bought the restaurant nearly 7 years ago, after having worked in corporate kitchens. They found 5th Avenue Cafe up for sale and loved the great family feel of the restaurant and the rest, as they say, is history.

The 5th Avenue Cafe started out in the late 1940's as Upton's and became a staple in Central Phoenix. The restaurant was actually featured in the original version of the movie "Psycho" and was eventually purchased by a woman named Dee. Dee was so respectful of Mr. Upton and his restaurant that she waited until after he passed to change the name to Dee's, which is what a lot of people still know this restaurant as.

Ownership changed hands a few more times throughout the years, and now Dawn and her husband are the proud 7th owners of the restaurant. They were lucky enough to inherit a head waiter in Paula, who started when she working at Upton's when she was 16 and still works to this day.

The 5th Avenue Cafe is a classic diner, serving all your favorite breakfast foods (steak and eggs, chicken fried steak, corned beef hash) 7 days a week. They have a special every day of the week, including their delicious pot roast on Thursdays. On the weekends, the menu is all specials and the desserts available are always sweet and tasty.
