I’m doing a series of videos showcasing restaurants, small businesses, and nonprofits within our community. Today, I’m speaking with Karen Lemus and Sergio Nava, owners of Presidio Cocina Mexicana, a wonderful restaurant in downtown Phoenix.
Both Karen and Sergio are originally from California. Karen’s family owned businesses as she grew up: her father ran a printshop, her mother ran a business, and she and her brothers also owned their own businesses. Running a small business is in her blood. Sergio always knew that his mother’s recipes were amazing, and he wanted to share that food with others.
The menu features classic Mexican foods such as enchiladas and burritos. They also have speciality dishes, such as the Quesadilla Roja con Chicharron, which features as homemade chile-corn tortilla, crispy pork belly, salsa, and queso fresco. They also make their own chorizo and recently added their famous Presidio Tacos to the breakfast menu. You can see their full menu here.
They are in the process of applying for a liquor license, and developing their own margarita mix for the occasion. They should hear back about the liquor license by early April. Once they get the liquor license, they may be open later, but for now Presidio Cocina is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
