Today I'm at The Spicery In Our 1895 Home in downtown Glendale. Despite the name, the restaurant was actually started in 1987, and is now run by Matt Borowski. Matt had known the previous owner very well, and he ended up buying the restaurant in 2012 after coming out of retirement.
The house that makes up the restaurant has six rooms, and yes, it was actually built in 1895. They serve lunch and afternoon tea. The menu consists of soups, sandwiches, and quiches. They bake fresh bread everyday, and they also serve afternoon tea!
The afternoon tea is a set menu with a pot of tea, scones, shortbread, lemon curd, and bite-size sandwiches. This is all followed by dessert, which features custard, brownie bites, macaroons, and more. You will not leave hungry from the afternoon tea!

The restaurant is situated in downtown Glendale, and there are lots of other old homes that have been turned into retail shops such as antique shops, boutiques, restaurants, and bars. There is a ton of stuff to do in this area, especially if you enjoy history.
One other special thing this restaurant does is host a 4-course Christmas meal. They do this from Thanksgiving until Christmas, and it's best to make reservations because spots fill up quickly.
