We’re back again with another video in our series connecting people and places in the Greater Phoenix area. Today we’re honored to be joined by Mary Lou Stephens, the Associate Managing Director of the Phoenix Theatre. She started at the Phoenix Theatre in 2009 as a part-time manager and immediately fell in love with the job. She’s done a bit of everything at the theatre, but her current position puts her in charge of all the theatre’s earned revenue streams, from ticket sales to marketing to educational programs.

Phoenix Theatre has been in the city for nearly 100 years, and is currently the longest continuously operated theatre west of the Mississippi River. Many people think all a theatre company does is produce plays, but there are actually a lot of other programs they do within the community.

One program they have is called “Date night with the Dramaturg” where you can come in and talk about the history of a specific show. For donors, they also offer an artistic directors’ series where you can meet and discuss the different productions happening at the theatre.

Phoenix Theatre also has a very robust summer camp program that accommodates ages 4 to 104. It’s an opportunity for the community to get involved, especially the youth. Their 8-week summer programs really give them the opportunity to reach out to the community, and they fund more than $20,000 in scholarships every year. This year’s program starts on June 6th!
