We’re back to spotlight yet another great organization in the community. I’m happy to be joined by Nate Rhoton today, the development director for one*n*ten. He’s going to talk to us about how he came to be involved with this organization, and what they do to help troubled youth in the area.
Nate came to one*n*ten about 10 months ago after leaving corporate America. He made the change because after 13 years in a business setting, he realized that he liked spending his time volunteering more than his actual job. So when the opportunity to combine the two came about, he jumped at it.
One*n*ten is a 23-year-old organization that is based in Maricopa County. They provide services to LGBT youth and offer a variety of programs, including a youth center on 3rd street and six different satellites across the Valley that provide services one day a week. Last year, they provided services for over 975 people right here in Maricopa County.
They also offer a summer camp over Labor Day that has had applicants from all over the country. They provide these things free of charge to youth, which is fantastic. For some kids, this is the first time they have interacted with other LGBT youth and it can have a tremendously positive impact on them.
This program has had a tremendous impact on many.
It’s amazing what can happen when you surround a young person with a supportive environment where they are accepted and loved for who they are. It can do a tremendous amount of good in a short amount of time.
